The Last Few Months

So it's the day before I'm supposed to go back to work & I'm just now getting around to updating my blog. So here's just a quick run down of what we've been up to over the last few months...I apologize for the grocery list, this is pretty much my journal & I try to keep track of pics & dates so I can (one day) go back & scrapbook them.

APRIL
April seemed to drag on for us as we waited for the warm weather to come to Ohio & for everyone to get healthy. I think Logan & I were sick off & on for the entire month & we were so grateful when May arrived. Logan had a pink eye scare & couldn't go to daycare so he ended up coming to work with me. I am so fortunate to work with such wonderful people who are mothers themselves & fully understand trying to work & be a mom. So one of Logan's honorary Ohio auntie's got to look after him all day @ the front desk. (thanks auntie lynne!) Logan did great & just snoozed & laid contently on the floor.

We also did manage to get a quick family pic thanks to the Peacocks.

MAY
In May we looked forward to our annual Palm Springs trip (which we unfortunately don't get to attend every year). But this year we were determined to go because it seemed like pretty much everyone from our group was going to be there. We had a great time & Logan did wonderful on the plain ride again. He's going to be our frequent flier by the end of the year...I wonder if I can get him a frequent flyer membership even though he sits on my lap? This year in Palm Springs it was surprisingly chilly; I can't remember it ever being this chilly over the last twenty something years that we've been going. So with Logan getting a cold I was hesitant to take him in the pool; but we did make it out on our last day. Logan seemed to enjoy, but I think he was more confused. We spent our time this year at the outlets, and inside the condo working on a very difficult puzzle. We managed to enlist Josh & Meredith's help but never did finish. It's waiting at mom & dad's for us to finish when we go out in September.

Also, while we were in Palm Springs Rona Hawkins was kind enough to take time out of her vacay to take some much needed family pics. She is so incredibly talented.

California Dreaming

I took Logan on his first plane ride all by myself to visit my family in California for Spring Break. Unfortunately, Brent had to stay behind and see patients (so much for Spring Break). Logan was a complete angel on the plane ride out to California and everyone was commenting on what a good baby he was (of course I would have to agree)!!

Logan @ the airport...totally ready for the airplane.

We made it through our first flight...just about to land!

It was so fun to see my family and get some much needed sunshine. Winter feels like its been dragging on forever here in Columbus. Logan got to meet his cousin Christian (David & Kat's baby) who is just 3 1/2 months older than him. It was pretty funny to see them together and we had a blast taking pics of them on St. Patty's day decked out in their cute little matching outfits (courtesty of Grandma Rigby & Murphy).

Introductions: Christian meet Logan, Logan meet Christian.

Starting to tip...we're not great a sitting up by ourselves yet.

Nice to meet you!!

Best buds already...oh the trouble we're going to get into when we're mobile!

Logan also got to meet the rest of his Aunts and Uncles. Here Uncle Johnny is giving him some much needed advice...I can only imgaine what it is?!

California was also a time for 1sts for Logan...1st trip to the park and his little tootsies got to go in the sand. It was adorable to watch; his face was so darn cute.

Logan with Nonni about to experience sand between his toes for the 1st time...oh I can't wait...

This feels so good...

I love the sand!

I have such chubby toes!

The other 1st for Logan was the pool. Logan loves his bath time so I thought he'd probably enjoy the pool as well. He didn't get too terribly excited, but I think he was just enjoying the feeling of floating around!

Mom & Logan ready for the sun & the pool! (had to borrow Christian's hat which is way too big...that's why I look like such a dork!)

I have my "chillin' in the tub" face on! (this is Logan's "chill face" whenever he takes a bath)

My Sleeping Boys

Last night Brent, Logan & Indiana all snuggled up on our bed as I was putting away laundry and ironing. About 15 minutes into it, I looked up and all three of them were asleep...it was pretty cute and I was lucky enough to get my camera before they all woke up.

2008 BLIZZARD!

It's officially March and it looks like the middle of winter here in Columbus, Ohio! It has been snowing nonstop since yesterday morning and it's just now starting to lighten up. We're under a Blizzard advisory until this afternoon (I think this is a first for this SoCal girl). When we took our pictures this afternoon we were at 15 inches! I think this is the most snow we've gotten since we've lived here.

As much as I am ready for spring, it's been kind of fun to see all of the snow fall and to have an excuse to stay in and veg; life gets so busy and hectic it's nice when the weather forces you to slow down and just enjoy the people you love. Brent and I have had such a fun couple days enjoying our little family; hopefully we'll be able to find the time to do this more frequently...minus the blizzard!

We took this opportunity to introduce Logan to the snow...he didn't seem to thrilled about all the cold, wet flakes falling on his face. So we quickly snapped a couple pictures and got him right back inside (10 minutes to get bundled up, 10 SECONDS outside, and another 10 minutes to unbundle)!

Indiana on the other hand was absolutely loving all the snow. It was hilarious to watch him pounce around in the snow that came up higher than him.

One of Indy's favorite things to do in the snow is to try and catch snow balls...pretty funny to watch; he can't seem to figure out why he can't catch them.

Roadtrip to Chicago and Milwaukee

Logan did awsome on his first of many roadtrips! Brent had a Prosthodontic conference in Chicago of all places in the middle of February (why not Arizona, we're dying for some warm weather!). Last year we took this opportunity to see a little of the windy city and then visit our good friends who moved to Milwaukee and we decided we'd go for it again this year with Logan. On Friday while Brent was
immersed in the world of Prosthodontics, Logan and I got to spend the day together...and what is there to do in Chicago in the middle of February...SHOP. Logan endured his first shopping trip with mom and did very well. Because it was so cold we actually only walked to the mall that was about a block away from the hotel and spent most of the time riding the elevator in the 7 story mall; I'm just beginning to realize how much longer it takes to do things with a baby & a stroller, no more escalators. Actually, we would have liked to go to the aquarium or a museum but none of them were within walking distance of the hotel and I was not quite prepared to try the subway (or a taxi) with baby & stroller by myself in Chicago (maybe when I'm a little more experienced).

Daddy & Son...do we see a resemblance??

Saturday we headed up to Milwaukee to visit Joe & Jenn (our friends from dental school). They adopted a baby (Samuel) last year who just turned 1 on Dec. 31st and then just had a baby in Sept. (Mason) and we were very excited to see there 2 little ones & show off our Logan. It was a blast to see them again and all of us were still in disbelief that we're all parents now...it still seems very surreal. (We were two of the very few couples without kids in dental school).

A couple years ago we would have headed to dinner @ Chili's and then gone to see a movie. (Jenn & I were notorious for "eating out" much to our husbands' dismay). My how our lives have changed! Instead we had a very good lunch @ Joe & Jenn's (thanks guys), spent a few hours catching up, feeding babies, changing diapers, putting babies down for naps, feeding & changing again...breathe...and then managed to get out for a little bit to have dinner at the food court in the mall because there is a play place there!! We loved every minute of it!

Before we left we took a few pictures of all us (unfortunately Samuel was already asleep). It was hilarious to see Mason & Logan next to one another; they are only 3 months apart & Mason looked like he could clobber Logan.

We sat them on this little couch to take pictures and they were just these two little blobs staring at us...niether of them can hold there heads up yet and they just kept rolling into one another. It was pretty funny to watch (although they did not seem all that amused).

Happy Valentine's

I think we have the happiest baby ever!! (thank heavens). Recently, I Logan has just been so content & happy which is great. It seems like he is either asleep, eating, or giggling & smiling at something...I absolutely love it!

Nonni (my mom) got Logan the cutest little Valentines outfit and every time I went to take a picture of him in it he was covered in spit up! (He is a major spitter). But, I was getting him ready for his bath today and had peeled away the top dirty layer & he just looked so adorable in his little onesie on the red towel! I was fortunate enough to get some really cute pictures of him laughing away! Maybe I'll get a picture of him fully dressed & cleaned one of these days...but I'm not counting on it!

Just as we were leaving to go for a drive, Logan was giggling away again in his carrier! He loves looking up at this crazy cow toy we have on it; and often I'll hear him make little laughing noises in the back seat when we're driving around and he's watching it move.

Back to work & Logan's 2 months

Well, my maternity leave ended last week and I started back up at work with lots of mixed emotions. I was incredibly sad and a little worried about leaving Logan at daycare all day, but I was excited to get out of the house after two months and enjoy the company of adults again. It turns out everthing went very smoothly and I know leaving Logan at daycare was way more stressful for me than for Logan...he was smiling and giggling away when I picked him up (definitely not phased at all; it did make me a little jealous though)! But I can now empathize with all of you working mothers; I was thorouhly exhausted at the end of the week and when Logan and I got home on Thursday evening we quickly ate and got ready for bed and we were both asleep by 7:30pm (that's a first for us)! Poor Brent got home to a very dark and quiet home with only Indiana awake to greet him.

The best part of that night though was the fact that Logan didn't wake up again until 6:00am!!! I think daycare is wearing Logan out and I also think that he's decided to take pity on me, because he's slept through the nights off and on for the last week and a half (more on than off!). I'm almost afraid to say anything for fear I'm going to jinx myselft. The first few times that it happened I was scared to death that something was wrong; but, when I checked on him, he was sleeping away soundly! I was actually very nervous about him sleeping that long that I even asked our pediatrician at his 2 month appt today if it was ok and she just laughed at me- I'm a paranoid 1st time mommy. Also at our two month appt we learned that our little guy is growing wonderfully... he now weighs a whopping 12 lbs 4 oz; he's in the 50th% for weight and head circumference (dad thinks we have a smart little guy on our hands), and 25th% for height (but not so tall). He had to get a shot today though and I've never seen his face so red nor heard him cry so loud...it was a very sad sight and it took a good 5 minutes or so to calm him down afterwards.

Looking back on these last two months, I've realized what an amazing adventure this whole parenting thing is; it is nothing that Brent nor I could have imagined. We constantly find ourselves looking at one another and at Logan in disbelief that this precious little baby is ours. It has been such a joy to have a new little baby with such a sweet and joyful spirit in our home. We are so grateful to our Heavenly Father to have entrusted this child into our care and feel so blessed to have him here, happy and healthy!
